They say that the 2 most hated professions in the world are car salesmen and attorneys. So, you may say that's why my husband and I (both attorneys) were able to connect so well with Jeff H., internet Fleet Manager of Putnam Toyota. However, I think my 100% positive experience at this location can be attributed solely to Jeff H.When we arrived at the dealership this past Saturday, we had no intentions of driving out with a new Prius. Yes, my husband spent hours into research and we were well informed consumers, but we were just going in to take a test drive. But Jeff's personal touch turned our test drive into a new car purchase.First and foremost, he was so friendly and down to earth. He answered all of our questions and offered helpful advice from his own experience as a long-time driver of a Prius.Second, he made the sales experience feel like a conversation between friends rather than employing the usual sales tactics or pressure to get us to buy. While we waited for our financing paperwork to be completed, he regaled us with anecdotes about his extensive concert experiences. The 4 hours we spent at the dealership felt like minutes!We felt that Jeff H. treated us fairly and with respect and the entire experience was 100% positive. I highly recommend Jeff H. if you are in the market for a Toyota.

I can't believe it has been almost a year since I bought my new Prius. This was my fourth one in 13 years....there was always a good reason to change...long story, and it was definitely my best experience buying from Putnam. I contacted several dealers as I knew that the car I wanted was not easily found. On Craigslist, I found the internet fleet manager, Jeff Hershman, at Putnam. He was warm and friendly and it did not just feel like a salesman act. He even made us a Grateful Dead mix CD after we purchased. He is genuinely a friendly person. I am sure of that because we became Facebook friends and I see how he talks to people. We have stayed in touch. I have brought my car back to Putnam for regular service and people are always helpful. They have a great customer lounge and even an excellent coffee machine where I can get a latte or cappuccino. As a committed environmentalist, I appreciate that they offer ceramic cups rather than styrofoam. Two days ago we stopped by to see Jeff Hershman and then made a quick stop at the service department to ask a question about a problem one of the members of our community was having with his Prius, and they generously shared the solution with us.

Yesterday we purchased our second Toyota (in less than two weeks) from Jeff Hershman, the Internet Sales Manager. We returned to Jeff because of our excellent experience with our previous purchase. We were not disappointed. We got the price we offered, a fair one if I must say, on the car we wanted. No quibbling, just straight talk through emails. It was a quick, easy transaction. Once again, we hopped in our car for the hour+ ride up to Burlingame and met Jeff to finalize our purchase. Although he was visibly ill, Jeff made every effort to make sure that we were satisfied with our purchase and its terms. He could have easily fobbed us off onto another salesman, but he didn't. Purchaser/salesman loyalty goes both ways at Putnam. Hoorah! Now, for the reason why I've dropped down a star from my last review: the finance manager. His attitude and clumsy attempt at bargaining almost blew the entire sale. Unlike Jeff, this man was a pushy, hard line salesman. At one point in our transaction he stepped out of his office to "ask someone about a reduced price" for a service contract. He came back in smelling like he had just had a smoke, rather than consulting with someone. The cigarette smell and his attitude made my wife ill and almost drove us out of the office. Hint to Putnam: don't put smokers in small offices. Anyway, this man was just downright rude to us, and if it wasn't for Jeff's efforts, we would have walked out and voided the sale right then and there.
